Cambridge IELTS 15 Academic Listening Test 1 is one of the more deceptive papers in the Cambridge 15 set — the early sections lull you, and the later ones punish any drift in concentration. Section 1 features a job-related telephone enquiry; Section 2 moves into a tour inside a leisure facility; Section 3 shifts into students preparing a joint presentation; and Section 4 closes with an ornithology lecture.
Section 1 uses note completion; Section 2 uses multiple choice plus table completion; Section 3 uses completion, multiple choice and multi-answer multiple choice; Section 4 uses note completion. The transition between Section 2 and Section 3 catches most candidates: the speaker count doubles and the vocabulary tightens, so reset your concentration during the preview rather than carrying momentum across.
Spend the preview seconds underlining the keyword in each gap and pencilling a word-class hint above it. Resist over-correcting in real time — if you miss an answer, leave it and rejoin at the next signpost. Use the ten-minute transfer window to clean up capitalisation, plurals and word limits. For band 7, accuracy on the last ten questions usually decides the score.
